HLB Specialties launches new line of premium drinking coconuts

HLB Specialties, a leader in the tropical fruit industry, announced the launch of its new line of premium drinking coconuts sourced from Costa Rica and Southeast Asia.

This new offering reflects HLB Specialties’ commitment to providing high-quality, fresh, and innovative niche exotics to consumers across the market. The company will be introducing the coconuts at this month’s Viva Fresh show in Houston.

“Our new line of Drinking Coconuts is the perfect addition to our portfolio,” said Melissa Hartmann de Barros, director of communications at HLB Specialties, based in Fort Lauderdale, FL. “With a growing demand for natural hydration and a taste for the tropics, we are thrilled to offer fresh coconuts from two of the best-growing regions in the world — Costa Rica and Southeast Asia.”

These peeled, ready-to-drink coconuts are packed with naturally refreshing coconut water, ideal for hydration, post-workout recovery and tropical refreshment. They are available for retail and foodservice, ensuring customers can enjoy the pure taste of coconut water straight from the source, unaltered.

Both varieties come in single units as well as club packs. The Costa Rican coconuts include a sustainable straw and are very easy to enjoy, just follow the arrow on the coconut and insert the straw in the soft opening. After enjoying the fresh water, consumers can open the coconuts to scoop out the pulp.

The packaging includes QR codes that lead to videos created to show the ease of opening and various uses of the shell, including arts and craft ideas for kids.

The Asian variety is being marketed as “Tap & Sip,” as accessing the coconut water is a little different, but also easy; just tap the top on a hard surface to puncture the coconut, insert the included straw and sip away.

HLB Specialties’ Costa Rican and Asian drinking coconuts are available year-round and nationwide, offering consumers a delicious, natural, and sustainable hydration alternative. The company has been distributing the Costa Rican coconuts for almost a year through club stores and received several inquiries each month from consumers.

“The coconuts have definitely caused a disruption in the market, and we are excited to see this item grow,” remarked Hartmann de Barros.

HLB Specialties will be displaying their wide array of niche tropical fruits at Viva Fresh (booth No. 1009), including the drinking coconuts, guava, Samba Papaya, dragon fruits, and more. The company has been specializing in tropical fruits such as guavas, lychees, rambutan, papayas, mangosteen, and more for over 35 years.

The North American HLB company is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale and distributes through its network in Pompano Beach, FL, Los Angeles, McAllen, TX, as well as direct drop air-shipments to clients. Its European sister company, HLB Tropical Food GmbH, is headquartered near Frankfurt, Germany.
